Anya
Boyd
Anya Boyd joined the
Energy, Environment and Climate Change group in 2010 after
completing the MSc programme in Energy & Development studies at the
Energy Research Centre. She was also an intern under the UNITAR
Climate Change programme from 2009-2010.

Current research
interests and focus areas
Anya has worked
alongside climate change researchers at the ERC as a contributing
author on work related to South Africa’s Technology Needs
Assessments; a review of selected developing countries’ national
climate change plans; and participated in developing indicators for
the WRI Energy Governance Initiative (EGI) in South Africa. Her
recent thesis considered the transfer and implementation of low
carbon technologies into and within South Africa under the UNFCCC
process, with particular focus on biogas technology. Currently she
is focusing on technology negotiations and Nationally Appropriate
Mitigation Actions (NAMA’s) under the UNFCCC.
Anya is currently
involved in the TD4SUD Technology Deployment for Sustainable Urban
Development: Engagements with Informal Economy Catering project – a
multidisciplinary project at UCT.
Anya is also a
project team member of the biogas digester implementation project on
UCT campus and is also engaged with providing project support to
Engineers without Borders, UCT.
Previous
experience
Prior to her MSc at
the Energy Research Centre, Anya was a senior sustainability
consultant in the UK working with design teams in the public and
private sector advising on best practice standards in energy, water
& waste efficiency as well as providing planning advice to clients
around renewable energy feasibility studies. She also spent time
working with Practical Action Consulting - an NGO who work in
Africa, Asia & Latin America together to improve the livelihoods of
poor communities through the application of appropriate
technologies. Anya focused on energy related projects looking at
clean energy supply & access for the poor.
