- BSc Eng (Mechanical Engineering) – University of Cape Town
Guy joined the ERC’s Energy Efficiency Group as a full-time staff member in 2016, whilst completing is Master’s degree at the Centre. He has worked with the Group primarily on applied research projects exploring the energy demand behaviour of South African user groups, with a particular focus on industrial energy use. Guy is also a member of the UCT M&V Team. He has reported on a number of load management projects under the national electricity utility’s demand-side management programme. Guy’s other research interests include the enhancement of energy access in Sub-Saharan Africa, and the role of equity and ambition in the progression of international climate policy and negotiations. Guy’s MSc dissertation analysed the effect of building design on thermal comfort in commercial buildings (using the ERC as a case study), and assessed potential low-energy options for mitigating summer heat gains.
